Shirin Neshat

  • BiographyShirin Neshat is an Iranian-American visual artist and filmmaker whose photography and video work explore the tensions between tradition and modernity, gender and power within Islamic societies. Her landmark series Women of Allah (1993–97) featured stark black-and-white photographs of veiled women inscribed with Persian calligraphy, sparking international dialogue about identity and resistance. She received the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for her film Women Without Men.
